Greetings LSAMP Research mentors!

Thank you so much for your past and/or current support of our LSAMP students!

Dodie and I are here to help support your students in any way that we can. We sent the following info out to our current students and just
want to make sure that you are all aware of what LSAMP has to offer. If you have a current student or a student that is interested in doing
research and participating in our program please send them our way!!

Thanks again!

Kathy

As a Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (LSAMP) member, you will receive important announcements and opportunities within the
STEM fields including invitations to Grad School presentations and fairs.  LSAMP also provides support to qualifying STEM undergraduate
students in advising, research funding, travel funds to visit U.S. graduate degree granting institutions and/or to attend a professional
meeting appropriate to the student's development, funds for other related activities such as graduate school applications and test fees, GRE
preparation, and minor research materials costs.

CSUB LSAMP participants will meet 4 times per year, twice in each term. These are mandatory meetings with a wealth of information to share.
Our first meeting is scheduled for Friday, September 20 or you can attend on Tuesday, Sept. 24th, refreshments will be provided.  We are
offering the same meeting at 2 different times to accommodate busy schedules.

Friday             9/20     9 to 10:30       Sci III Rm 213

Tuesday          9/24    10 to 11:30      Sci II Rm 309

Requests for Funding

As an LSAMP student, it is important to plan in advance for funding requests.  First and foremost, any student conducting research with a
faculty advisor must complete the following CITI training or have completed Phil 3318.  This only needs to be completed once ? if your
certificate is on file with me, it is still valid.  If you plan to participate in research and have not done so yet, please follow the
directions and link below:

The CITI (Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative) Program.  This is a service providing research ethics education to all members of
the research community. If you have, or plan to receive funding for research through LSAMP, this is required.  Please visit the
link https://www.citiprogram.org and set up an account.  Once you are logged in, select "Add a Course or Update Learner Groups".  You will
be asked to answer a few questions on the type of research you are participating in.  These answers will determine the training module you
must take.  Funding will only be awarded after completing the training.

once you have submitted the answers, you can then select the training module required for your specific research.  Complete the module and
print or save the Certificate of Completion and submit to Dodie Hyatt, dhyatt2 at csub.edu or drop off at the NSME Student Center, Sci I, Rm
116.

Stipends

Request for Research Stipends are submitted at the end of the term after research has been completed.  The amount of the stipend can vary
and will be based on time, effort, and quality.   For the Fall 2019 term, requests for stipends are due December 6th, late requests will not
be accepted. CITI training is required, and the application must be complete including a detailed research description.

GRE, Conference, Research Supply requests

Other requests for funding can be submitted by first meeting with your faculty advisor for the form.  If you are applying for research
supplies, GRE reimbursement or travel/conference fees, you can submit the completed request to the NSME Student Center, Engineering Complex
#3.  While some requests can be paid in advance, most reimbursements will be processed at the end of the current term.

Events

The California Forum for Diversity in Graduate Education will be held at the University of California, Los Angeles in the spring.  This
event will provide students the opportunity to attend various workshops on graduate education and financial aid, hear motivational speakers,
and network with over 100 graduate program representatives. FREE transportation provided and lunch will be provided.  Emails with all
details will be sent out in the spring.
